Las Vegas dia 2

Como nos acostamos a la 5 de la mañana hoy nos hemos saltado el desayuno y hemos ido directamente a comer al Planet Hollywood en una terracita con vistas al Strip. Las temperaturas en el desierto en octubre son perfectas, no se yo en agosto.... Y despues visitar sin apostar los casinos mas alejados del "Strip": Circus Circus, Excalibur, etc.

En Las Vegas no podiamos dejar de asistir a algun espectaculo, el problema es decidirse por cual. Lo facil, ir a ver Zumanity del Circo del Sol en nuestro hotel. Menos mal que estabamos en el gallinero porque si en Chicago hacian chistes a tu costa, aqui sacan al publico al escenario a actuar.

We went to bed at 5am so today we have skipped breakfast and we have gone directly to have lunch in Planet Hollywood in a terraze overlooking the "Strip". Temperatures in October in the desert are perfect, I would't be sure in August.... And afterwards more visits withouth betting to the casinos not close to the "Strip"; Circus Circus, Excalibur, etc...

In Vegas we could't miss seeing a show, the problem is deciding which one. The easiest option, seeing Zumanity by the Cirque du Soleil in our hotel. We were lucky we were in the balconies because if in Chicago they make fun of the spectators in Vegas the take them to the stage to be a part of the play.

Las Vegas dia 1

Primera noche en las Vegas que como no estaba planeada la pasamos en un hotel en las afueras. Después de tantas horas de viaje no damos para mas que una cena en el restaurante italiano enfrente del hotel de aspecto un poco mafiosillo y con un imitador de Frank Sinatra serenandonos la comida. Lo bueno del hotel es que estaba situado al lado de un outlet, asi pudimos hacer unas compras y aprovechar las rebajas del Dia De Colon.

Hora de ir al New York New York Hotel y a la "Strip" (Las Vegas Boulevard), la calle donde se concentran todos los casinos y hemos ido directos al Bellagio donde nos habian recomendado el buffet. Despues de comer hasta casi explotar nos acercamos al Estadio Sam Boyd para ver el partido de futbol americano universitario entre Las Vegas y Hawai, que ganaron los locales en el ultimo segundo.

Y por la noche a reventar la banca!. De punta a punta del strip parando a jugar en todos los casinos. Thelma incluso se atrevio a entrar en una mesa de ruleta en la que la crupier le tuvo que estar explicando de que iba el asunto. Todo el grupo acabo la noche con perdidas, menos Clyde que se llevo $50.

The first night in Vegas was not planned and we had to stay in a hotel near the airport. After so many hours driving we didn't have any energy to do any more than eating in the italian mafia-style restaurant in front of the hotel with a Frank Sinatra impersonator entertaining our dinner. The best thing about this hotel was the location, close to an outlet, so we could do some shoppingthe next morning in the Columbus Day sales.

Time to go to the New York New York Hotel and the "Strip" (Las Vegas Boulevard), the street with all the casinos and we headed straight to the Bellagio where we had been recommended the buffet. After eating until our bellies bursted we went to the Sam Boyd stadium to watch university football, Las Vegas vs Hawaii, match won last minute by the local team.

The plan for the night is breaking the casinos banks! From one end to the other of the Strip stopping to bet in all of them. Thelma even dare to sit at a table to play roulette where crouppier had to explained what it was all about. All our group finished with losses except Clyde who won $50.

Grand Canyon

Because of the federal government shutdown, all national parks are closed and National Park Service webpages are not operating. For more information, go to www.doi.gov.

Debido al cierre del gobierno, todos los parques nacionales estan cerrados y las paginas web del Servicio Nacional de Parques no estan operativas. Para mas informacion www.doi.gov. 

El cierre del gobierno no se ha resuelto a tiempo para ver el Grand Canyon. Williams hubiera sido la parada para domir y desde alli hubieramos cogido un tren si no nos apetecia conducir hasta el Canyon. En su lugar hacemos un dia mas en Las Vegas y pasamos este dia conduciendo por el desierto con parada para hacernos fotos con los Josua Trees y ver la Presa Hoover.

The Goverment shutdown has not been resolved yet so we have not been able to visit the Grand Canyon. Our plan was to sleep in Williams and take a train to the Grand Canyon if we didn't want to drive. Instead we are spending an extra day in Las Vegas and all we did today was drive in the desert, stopping only to take pictures of the Josua Trees and the Hoover Dam.

Flagstaff

Una luz de emergencia se nos encendio ayer en el coche y hemos tenido que ir al aeropuerto de Albuquerque para cambiarlo. Ya nos imaginabamos como nos daban un hammer o un ford mustang pero nos han dado una copia exacta del que llevabamos: un chrevrolet equinox plateado.

Habia rumores de se acercaba una tormenta y que las temperaturas iban a bajar pero lo que no nos imaginabamos era que nos iba a nevar estando el desierto. Tambien nos ha llovido y granizado cuando intentabamos visitar Gallup, la ciudad en la que inspiro la pelicula Cars. La parada en el Ranch Hotel nos ha salvado de una hipotermia.

Hollbrook debia haber sido parada para dormir pero la preparacion previa al viaje nos hacia sospechar que merecia la pena conducir un poco mas y parar en un pueblo mas grande. Ni siquiera hemos podido ver el meteorito del que tanto nos habia hablado Bonnie. Nos hemos hecho fotos en el tippee motel y continuamos hacia flagstaff donde el paisaje cambia radicamente, pasamos del desierto a las montanas boscosas con nieve en las cumbres. En una de estas cimas esta el Lowell observatory donde se mapeo la luna, se descubrio Pluton y se consiguieron pruebas confirmatorias de que el universo se expande.

Cena en el Galaxy Dinner con musica en directo y birras en un bar cercano.

 

 









An emergency light appeared in the dashboard yesterday and we had to go to the airport to change the car. We were imaging us driving a hammer or a ford mustang but we have been given the exact same copy of the car we had: silver Chevrolet Equinox.

We had heard rumours that a storm was coming our way and the temperatures were going to drop but we could not imagine that we were going to get snowed in the desert. We also had rain and hailstorm while visiting Gallup, the town that inspired the movie Cars. Stopping at the Ranch Hotel has saved us from hypothermia. 

Holbrook was the original place to sleep today but the pre-trip research convinced us that it was better to drive a little longer and stop in a bigger town. The meteor Bonnie had told us so much was not even in the city. We took some photos at the Tippee Motel and we continued our trip to Flagstaff where the scenery changed dramatically from desert to forest mountains with snow at the tops. In one of this peaks is the Lowell Observatory where the moon was mapped, Pluto was discovered and confirmation proof that the universe is expanding was obtained. 

We ate at the Galaxy Dinner with live music and beers in a nearby bar.

aunque merecio la pena, una experiencia increible ver como mas de 200 globos de todas formas y colores, se elevan en el amanecer del desierto

but it was worth it, what an amazing experience to see more than 200 balloons of all shapes and forms taking off into the sky in the desert sunrise. 

La siguiente visita del dia, Santa Fe, la capital oficial de Nuevo Mexico. Un centro cuidado al detalle, arquitectura tipica mexicana con mucho encanto y donde fuimos al museo de historia de nuevo mexico para ponernos al dia de la convulsa historia de esta region que en los ultimos 200 años ha pertenecido a espanoles, indios, mejicanos y estadounidenses.

Next visit, Santa Fe, the official capital of New Mexico, a charming city centre with typical mexican buildings where we entered the New Mexico History Museum to learn the tumultous history of this region that in the last 200 years has belonged to Spaniards, Indians, Mexicans and US Americans. 

Finalmente por la tarde fuimos a comer al casco historico de Alburquerque donde disfrutamos de un poco de folclore autoctono mexicano, hicimos un intento de paseo por el Rio Grande y acabamos el dia en el cine preparando la visita a las Vegas con Runner runner, en la que Justin Timberlake trata de recuperar su dinero perdido en casas de apuestas on-line. 

Finally in the afternoon we headed to the historical Alburquerque downtown where we saw some traditional mexican dance, and we attempted a stroll around the Rio Grande finishing the day in the cinema in preparation for Las Vegas, watching Runner Runner with Justin Timberlake trying to recover his money lost in on-line gambling.

Albuquerque dia 1

Abandonamos Texas y el huso horario central  con una breve visita al Rancho de los Cadillacs donde nos estrenamos como grafiteros.  En Albuquerque vamos a pasar 2 noches y la agenda se presenta bastante apretada.
Primero subir a la Montana Sandia en teleferico y despues un "Breaking Bad" Tour, con cena como no, en "Los Pollos Hermanos". Y.... prontito a la cama que manana hay que madrugar!!

We leave Texas and the Central Daylight Time with a speedy visit to the Cadillacs Ranch where we did our first graffiti. In albuquerque we have planned to spent 2 nights and the agenda is tight.
First, a trip on the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway and then a "Breaking Bad" tour with dinner of course, in the "Los Pollos hermanos". And.....off to bed early because tomorrow we have to get up early!!!

Amarillo

Desde que hemos llegado a los EEUU, Bonnie & Clyde han empezado los dias con un poco de ejercicio para tratar de quemar las comidas hipercaloricas que se sirven en este pais. Como el hotel tenia piscina han cambiado el yoga y las abdominales por la natacion.... en el jacuzzi.

 Por la manana visita al National Cowboy & Western Heritage museum de Oklahoma en el que muy a nuestro pesar no habia toro mecanico. Despues de facturar sin incidentes en el hotel de Amarillo nos hemos dirigido a ver el Cañon de Palo Duro, el segundo mas grande de EEUU despues del Gran Canñon y que a este paso no vamos a poder visitar debido al cierre del gobierno. Tambien esta cerrado de momento el Yosemite, asi que estamos buscando como locos alternativas. Cena en el restaurante Calico de comida tipica tejana.

Since landing in the USA,  Bonnie & Clyde have started the days with some exercise to try to burn out the hypercaloric meals served in this country. As the hotel had a swimming pool they have switch the yoga and sit-ups for swimming.....in the jacuzzi. 

We spent the morning the National Cowboy & Western Heritage museum where we would have really liked they had a mechanic bull. in the afternoon we visited the palo Duro Canyon, the second biggest in the USA after the Grand Canyon which if the Goverment shutdown continues, we are not goin to be able to visit. The Yosemite it'ls also closed so we are busy trying to figure out alternatives.
